Change of Raw Material in Proteins
(updated October 2023)
8 months ago, Volac announced to us that it was going to stop marketing whey concentrate in Europe. The reasons were that like several brands, their commitment to the future was going to be isolates and hydrolysates. Glanbia , Carbery and many other brands already did it years ago. So starting in mid-2023, we would no longer be able to buy Volac's Volactive Ultrawhey 80 protein.
Instead, we could buy WPC from the Wheyco brand, which was the manufacturer of Volac for Europe and in principle the nutritional and organoleptic values were the same as they were the same raw material.
On the other hand, Glanbia also made a statement a few months ago, informing that its raw material WPI Provon 295 cfm would also stop being manufactured in mid-2023 and that it would become a WPH hydrolyzed protein called ProvonISO HI. Therefore, its nutritional values and, above all, its organoleptic values, would be totally different.
The option that Glanbia offered is a protein called Promiko , a whey isolate from the Tirland company, which was the manufacturer of Glanbia for Europe.
Since we became aware of these changes, we began a process of searching for a protein company that would support our project and offer the highest quality with which we were currently working to us and to the partners of our supplementation projects such as Cacaolat, Conguitos, Party, etc.
After several months of searching among the main patents and brands worldwide, several rounds of product sampling and pilots. We held several meetings with a company that shared our values, our vision and our enthusiasm for new projects.
In addition, being able to unify the purchase of WPI and WPC with raw materials that maintained the same quality that we have always had in our brands.
Something that excited us about this manufacturer is that their business structure is a cooperative, meaning that they do not buy the milk to extract the whey and subsequently manufacture the protein.
They control the entire process from the farmer to the processing of the protein, since they participate directly with companies in various branches such as food for the production of cheese, dairy products such as yogurt, and prepared protein shakes.
One of the largest cooperatives in the world, specialized in the production of dairy products from the ground up.
They understood our project, they saw the magnitude of the co-branding agreements that we currently have and the future ones we are working on and their commitment was firm, granting us the exclusive use of the Lacprodan logo, with the product badge manufactured by Arla Foods Ingedients .
